Botanical Silhouettes 21
Original acrylic painting on 36in x 36in on canvas, 1-1/2” thick (gallery wrapped).
The Botanical Silhouettes series delves into the intricate balance between positive and negative space in the natural world. By isolating flora silhouettes against contrasting backgrounds, I aim to reveal the hidden beauty in the spaces around the forms of flowers and leaves. I explore the intricate relationships between light, shadow, and texture in this series while minimizing colour to help viewers focus on the subtle nuances of the natural world.
This piece was inspired by flowers from my son’s wedding this past summer. All the leftover blooms were brought back to my house after the wedding. Over the next few days, I created different arrangements with the flowers and was captivated by the lovely shadows that were cast on the table. The hypericum berries were one of my favourites and I have loved painting them over the past number of months.
The Botanical Silhouettes series invites you to find peace and calm in the simple beauty of plants and the spaces around them.
